R & D Manager
Main responsibilities:
1 - Group development projects
- Responsible for developing, optimizing and improving products, methods and technologies within the group
- Design, define and perform design work and development of new products or new industrial processes, as well as studies to improve existing products and technological processes
- Conduct applied research studies, analyses, tests, and implement the development projects starting from A to Z Maintain and build close contacts with customers, suppliers and markets in order to translate trends and opportunities into product or technology development
- Close collaboration with the other departments of the group
2 - Group production support
- Support and responsibility for specific products for developing, optimizing and improving products, performances and technologies in group plants in close cooperation with the operational team
- Design, define and perform design work and development of existing products and technological processes Troubleshoot manufacturing issues for existing product and technologies in coordination with Product Line Managers
3 - Management of the local R&D team and group project teams
- Lead local engineers and technicians as well as group/local project teams
- Manage the budget of the department, make cash-flow, forecast
- Participate in the definition of business strategy and propose areas of research
- Ensure the link between development, PLM and production
- Participate to the continuous improvement of the department as well on local than on the group level
- Supervision of the team’s training and ensure the upgrade/transfer of know how
4 - Local quality management and group support, safety consulting
- Develop appropriate quality tests and agree with customers for specific products
- Train and supervise quality inspectors locally and on group level
- Prepare quality agreements with customers for specific products.
- Safety consulting locally and for specific productions on group level
Required Profile:
1 - Education and knowledge
- Graduated engineer preferably in chemistry
- Knowledge of chemical principles and practices in process design, equipment design, and process control is required, as well as knowledge of principles and practices in related technical fields (including, but not limited to electrical and mechanical engineering.)
- Relevant experience in the production field and as project engineer
- Experienced in team management
- Fluent Dutch or French + English
- Knowledge of MS Office
2 - Professional know-how
- Knowledge of thermal or electrical insulation preferably with epoxy and silicone polymers and inorganic chemistry.
- General knowledge of the legal regulations related to health and safety applicable to a production environment using chemical substances
